Newlisi S.p.A.Newlisi, the owner of a European patent recognized in 39 countries, is a leading company in Italy in biological sludge treatment (both industrial and municipal) with an unprecedented reduction rate of more than 75% in volume and weight vs the traditional dewatering system and of at least 80% in removal of VSS (Volatile Suspended Solids). The process consists in the solubilization of organic compounds in sludge obtained through a physical-chemical process with low temperatures (<90°C) and atmospheric pressure.
The eluate, the final product coming out from the Newlisi system (predominantly in a liquid form), is a perfect ingredient for the anaerobic digestion. The biogas production is significantly increased and the sludge retention time inside the digester is reduced. A further advantage consists in the conversion of other sludge elements extracted with the Newlisi thermolysis into gas.
In case of permanent or temporary unavailability of an anaerobic digester, the eluate is recycled to the head of the WWTP. After losing an important quantity of COD and trasforming a part of the remaing COD into a more biodegradable component the eluate increases the performance of the biomass in the WWTP in the biological tank as well. The Newlisi system is applicable to all types of biological sludge; it performs in accordance with the level of organic compounds contained in the sludge (i.e. municipality, food & beverage, milk & dairy, etc).
